Common side effects
Dryness, peeling, redness and a warm or tight feeling are common in the first weeks and usually settle as skin adjusts. Some people see a short flare of breakouts early on. If irritation is more than mild, use it less often and tell your provider.
Sun and other actives
Tretinoin makes skin more sensitive to the sun. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is part of the plan, not optional. Avoid layering with harsh exfoliants, benzoyl peroxide or other retinoids unless your provider advises it.
Who should not use tretinoin
Not for you if you are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive. Tell your provider about eczema, rosacea, very sensitive skin, or any other prescription skincare you use, so the start can be paced for you.
